The closest thing that we’ve got to an actual advocate is The Naturist Action Committee (NAC). In my own humble opinion, it is likely among the best things to come from the naturist / nudist movement. They’ve an excellent history and are incredibly powerful in regards to working with legal problems pertaining to public lands and beaches. Maybe if they had more support in the other groups and organizations, they could be even more powerful. But without appropriate funding and a growing network of support they’re going to have a tough time raising the capital they must cope with the legal issues in addition to establishing a more prominent presence. All these things cost money and NAC can’t fight legal battles and still spend cash on furthering their reach so they are left to pick and choose which ones they can and should take on.

NLC, NNLC, and ACFRI each were independent of FKK, however certainly had their origins in and main support from the Oshkosh-based group. Meanwhile, those members of ACFRI who were primarily connected with ASA were attempting to direct the group in an ASA direction, and thus kept ACFRI from fulfilling its mission as acting as an autonomous bridge between FKK and ASA. Some FKK members, like Durand Steiger, began to ask why FKK did not merely develop a political task force of its own. Throughout the 1980s, Steiger claimed, FKK had proved itself to be a successful naturist organization. Just FKK and ASA were by then, considered “major players” in the American clothes-optional movement. FKK had a respectable vehicle in CWS that could be used to get the task force’s message out to a broad group of folks. And with FKK in control–up front as well as behind the scenes–its political action group would avoid the pitfalls of internal disagreement brought about by having leaders from two sometimes disparate groups.
